Leap off the page! was an exciting development scheme for new and emerging writers from culturally diverse* backgrounds.

Script and Light House teamed up for the production phase of the scheme, which paired new writing talent with emerging filmmakers both from *culturally diverse communities in the West Midlands. One of the films, 'Cathy and I' received the Royal Television Society Award for best corporate/non-broadcast 2005.

The films are:

Parallel Lines - directed by Harmage Singh Kalirai and writtenby James Pogson - a symbolic drama about letting go of the past and dealing with the here and now.

Cathy and I - directed by Ekta Walia and written by Ashok Patel - a story about Jayaben who suffers from dementia; the impact upon her family and friends and how a new and surprising friendship offers her hope.

Tessa - directed by Joseph Potts and written by Tabasam Haseen - shows what can happen when a man tortured by his past allows a fantasy life to take over.

THE SCHEME...

Writers based within the West Midlands region received an intensive 4 months of training with workshop leaders, Peter Bullock and Michael Bickerton, which taught them techniques and skills relevant to writing for drama and the screen.
