BBC DEADLINE FAST APPROACHING

Paid training opportunity for script/screen writer.

Deadline: 9 May

BBC London are inviting applications for an attachment scheme based at their London Elstree Studio and Centre House.

Successful applicants will be trained in Drama and Broadcast writing with a view to writing for television. With satisfactory completion of the training candidates will be commissioned to write for BBC series Doctors, and later work on Eastenders, Casualty and Holby City on a 12-week rotation.

PLAYWRIGHTS SHOWCASE

University of Birmingham MPhil(B) Playwriting culminates in a day-long showcase of students' work.

Thursday 9th June

11am-5.30pm.

All are invited to the Allardyce Nicoll studio at the University for a public viewing of plays written by students on this year's MPhil in Playwriting, taught by playwrights Sarah Woods and Chris O'Connell.

The day will consist of eight 30 minute extracts.

BIG SCRIPT REHEARSED READINGS

Big Script present rehearsed readings of new writing, mini plays and monologues on the theme 'The Bed'.

Performed by professional actors at the Hexagon Theatre in the Midlands Arts Centre, there will be a different programme each night, directed by Kate Varney, Staff Director at the Birmingham Rep.

Thursday 9th June, Friday 10th June at 7.45 pm

WRITE A RADIO PLAY IN A WEEK

Also at the University of Birmingham is a practical five day course on radio writing.

Monday to Friday 18-22 July 2005

Tutors Deborah Catesby and Charlotte Goodwin are successful radio writers.  Using a mixture of practical tutor-led sessions and independent student work in small groups, with the intention of producing an original script by the end of the week.

The course is taking place at the University and costs £150 which includes lunch and refreshments.

PERMISSION TO SPEAK 2005

Are you a Disabled person? Would you like to write about how you feel?

May and June 2005

Permission to Speak 2005 is a course run by Angryfish Training for disabled persons enabling them to write and record their writing onto audio CD.

Three courses will run between May and June at Midlands Arts Centre and ICC/Symphony Hall in Birmingham.

GALLERY 37 REQUIRE PASSION AND PATIENCE

Lead and Assistant Artists wanted for an arts training programme which takes place every summer in the centre of Birmingham.

 

1-26 August 2005

(Development 26-29 July)

 

Gallery 37 is developed and delivered in close collaboration with many of the region's leading arts organisations.

They are looking for artists to help them deliver this year's programme of arts in a variety of forms.

Applicants must have excellent skills in their art form and experience of working with 16-24 year olds, particularly those from challenging backgrounds.

 

They are interested in hearing from artists with skills in the following areas:

-photography

-3D

-music

-fine art

-creative writing

-film

-vocal performance

-arts & science

WIN FREE EQUIPMENT HIRE TO MAKE YOUR SHORT FILM

Lastindependent.com are offering up to £5500 worth of free equipment hire and post production facilities to one local filmmaker with a great short script.

Deadline: 31 May 2005.

If you have a short film and Lastindependent.com like it they could be providing you with enough equipment for a five day shoot, Chromakey screen, post production editing, special effects and music as required.

The shoot will take place in summer 2005.

BE PART OF FILM HISTORY WITH ROLLING STOCK 2005

Channel 4's IDEASFACTORY presents the world's first ever film festival to take place on trains running across the West Midlands.

Deadline: 31 May 2005.

Held throughout June 2005, audiences will number around 55,000.

100 films will be selected for screening, and the winning short, voted by text, will take home £500.

Films must be less than five minutes long, in digital format and clean enough to be shown before the watershed.

SCREEN YORKSHIRE LAUNCHES SPARK 2

Screen Yorkshire's SPARK scheme is for feature film script development and is open to individuals with script ideas at the outline stage.

Deadline: 31 May 2005

Workshops will be held in advance of the submission deadline, open to anyone, to help potential entrants think cinematically when developing their ideas and provide a grounding in genre and marketability.

Successful applicants will develop their ideas through a series of stages, eventually being commissioned to write a treatment. Treatments will then be submitted to the UK Film Council Development Fund and the Screen Yorkshire Production Fund for consideration.  The final successful treatment will receive further support and not less than £5,000 in fees.

60 MINUTES FOR THEATRE WEST

Bristol theatre company Theatre West are launching a new search for a 2005 script.

Deadline: July 2005

Scripts are invited for stage plays of around 50-60 minutes in length, ideally requiring no more than three actors.

LAST CHANCE FOR WRITE LIVE 2005

Script and Birmingham Rep's Playwriting Competition Write Live 2005 closes  Friday 13 May.

 

If you live, work or study in the West Midlands you still have time to enter.

Submissions must consist of:

-A full-length play, written for theatre (minimum 60 minutes running time)

-A one-page outline of a different idea with 15 pages of dialogue
