SCRIPT
AND NEW THEATRE WORKS INVITATION TO WRITERS
New Theatre Works and Script
would like to invite writers interested in Docu-Drama
to attend one of two 'stimulus days' for their
new project, "What Did You Do in the War,
Granny?"
The
project is inspired by Bill Law's book published
in 2003, In the Munitions: Women at War
in Herefordshire, a book of reminiscences
of women who worked during the second world war
at the Rotherwas factory in Hereford - the biggest
munitions factory in the country an one of the
best kept secrets...
The intention is to create a unique
form of performed dramatic docu-drama involving
three generations of the Herefordshire community.
The play will be produced by New Theatre Works
and performed at the Courtyard Theatre, Hereford
from 16 - 21 October 2006. It is hoped to develop
it into an ambitious site-specific piece actually
in and around the disused factory and shell-filling
areas.
The
stimulus days will focus on creative elements
of the project and will include a panel discussion
led by New Theatre Works Director, Ellie Parker
with the writer Bill Laws. There will also be
a viewing of some film material pertaining to
the subject, hired from the Imperial War Museum.
In order to be considered for one
of the stimulus days, writers must complete the
application form
and submit a CV, together with a short
expression of interest in the project (1 page
only) by 30 November 2005 to
the Script address.
Stimulus days will take place on
8 March 2006 in Birmingham and 4
April 2006 in Hereford.
Up to
12 writers will be invited to attend each of the
stimulus days. Writers will then be asked to submit
a sample first scene and a synopsis or treatment
by 1st June 2006.
